Methodology

2025: To find and recognize the Best Places to Work, InvestmentNews invited organizations to participate by filling out an employer form, which asked companies to explain their various offerings and practices.

Next, employees from nominated companies were asked to fill out an anonymous form evaluating their workplace on a number of metrics, including benefits, compensation, culture, employee development, and commitment to diversity and inclusion.

To be considered, each organization had to reach a minimum number of employee responses based on its overall size. Organizations that achieved an 80 percent or greater average satisfaction rating from employees were named Best Places to Work of 2025.

2024: To find and recognize the Best Places to Work for Financial Advisors, InvestmentNews and Best Companies Group first invited organizations to participate by filling out an employer form, which asked companies to explain their various offerings and practices. To be eligible, an organization must:

1) be a registered investment adviser (RIA), affiliated with (but not an employee of) an independent broker dealer (IBD), or a hybrid/dually registered firm affiliated with an IBD and doing business through an RIA;

2) be based in the US;

3) have a minimum of 15 full- or part-time employees working in the US (all employees in the company should be included in the employee count, not just in the financial advising department); and

4) be in business for a minimum of one year.

Next, employers completed an in-depth questionnaire and employees were given the opportunity to offer their honest feedback by taking part in a company-wide survey. Once both portions of the assessment were complete, the InvestmentNews team analyzed the data to determine if an organization had what it takes to be the “best.”

To ensure credibility, organizations having 15–24 employees must have an 80 percent or better response rate on the employee survey.

2023: The annual Best Places to Work for Financial Advisors list is researched and complied by the Best Companies Group on behalf of InvestmentNews, using proprietary Best Companies analysis and ranking methodology. The Best Companies process compares self-reported best practices of participating firms across all industries in its database. Firm profiles are reported and written according to standard journalistic practice by InvestmentNews staff, referencing Best Companies compiled analysis and firms’ submissions. There is no fee to self-nominated for the list and there is no fee to be named a winner. The rankings are based on employee head counts as of September 2022.

2022: Each firm was selected for its workplace culture, employee benefit programs and employee-focused policies.

2021: The list of top firms was created by Best Companies Group through online employee and employer surveys. Firms voluntarily participated in this program and information about each firm was combined to assess its strengths and ultimately to determine its ranking.

2020: The list of top firms was created by Best Companies Group through online employee and employer surveys. Firms voluntarily participated in this program and information about each firm was combined to assess its strengths and ultimately to determine its ranking.
